Content & Review Policy
Last updated: 10 October 2026 · Version 1.0
Reviews only help people with coeliac disease, allergies and other dietary needs if they're honest. This policy:
- sets the rules for reviews, photos and other contributions;
- explains how we check them;
- tells you how to report a problem.
It forms part of our Terms of Use.
1. The golden rules
-
Only review places you've eaten at, based on your own visit. You can post one review per place. If you go back, update your review.
-
Be honest. Don't exaggerate or make things up.
-
No conflicts of interest. Don't review:
- a business you own or work for;
- a business owned or run by close family or friends;
- a business you've invested in;
- a competitor of any of these.
If you have any other connection, for example you were given a free meal, say so in your review.
-
No paid or rewarded reviews. Don't offer or accept money, free food, discounts or any other reward for writing, changing or removing a review, whether positive or negative.
-
Use your own words. Don't copy reviews from other websites.
-
One person, one account. Don't use several accounts, or ask others to post for you.
2. Writing about reactions and safety
- Telling others you had a reaction is important, and welcome. Stick to what you know: what you ordered, what you told staff, what happened, and when.
- Good: "I told staff I'm coeliac and ordered the gluten-free pasta. I had symptoms that evening."
- Not OK: "This restaurant poisoned me" or "They lie about gluten."
- Don't give medical advice or diagnose other people.
- Don't include medical details about yourself or anyone else beyond what's needed.
- If you think food made you ill, you can also report it using the Food Standards Agency's "Report a food problem" service at food.gov.uk.
3. What's not allowed
You must not post any of the following anywhere on Mangia Senza:
- Illegal content. This includes:
- terrorism content;
- child sexual abuse or exploitation;
- threats, harassment or stalking;
- hate crime;
- intimate images shared without consent;
- fraud or scams;
- encouraging suicide or self-harm;
- cyberflashing;
- anything that infringes someone's copyright.
- Statements about a person or business that you know, or suspect, are untrue and could harm their reputation.
- Other people's personal information, such as staff names, phone numbers, addresses or photos of people.
- Spam, adverts or self-promotion.
- Abusive, offensive or sexually explicit content.
- Content that's off-topic, or posted to manipulate ratings.
4. Photos
- Only upload photos you took yourself. They should show the place, its food, menus or allergen information.
- Don't include other people's faces.
- We automatically remove location data from photos, but check that the photo itself doesn't show anything private.
5. How we keep reviews genuine
We take reasonable and proportionate steps to stop fake and misleading reviews:
- You need an account with a confirmed email address to post.
- Before you post, you confirm that the review is about your own visit, and that you haven't been paid or offered anything for it.
- Each account can post at most 5 reviews in 24 hours, and one review per place.
- We look out for warning signs, such as copied text or a sudden burst of reviews for one place. Review text that matches another review is automatically flagged for a moderator to check, but we don't remove reviews automatically.
- Anyone can report a review, and our moderators check every report.
- If we find fake, rewarded or conflicted reviews, we remove them and may suspend the accounts involved. If a business was involved, we may also label its listing.
- We publish every review that follows this policy, good or bad.
- We never remove or hide a review because it's negative, because a business asks us to, or because a business pays us.
- Businesses can't see reviews before they're published, and get no say over them.
- Star ratings show the average of all published reviews, with the number of reviews next to them. The headline rating is the average answer to "How safe did you feel?". With the gluten-free filter on, it uses reviews from people who said they eat gluten-free (or both); with only the dairy-free filter on, it uses dairy-free (or both) reviews; otherwise it uses all reviews.
- Reviews by our own team, or by people we've asked to try somewhere, are labelled "Mangia Senza team".
- We don't import reviews from other websites.
6. How to report a problem
- Use the "Report" button on any review or photo, or email hello@mangiasenza.com with a link and the reason. You don't need an account to email us.
- Tell us:
- what the content is (a link or the listing name);
- why you think it breaks our rules or the law;
- how we can contact you.
- We'll acknowledge your report within 2 working days, and act swiftly on anything illegal. We may hide content while we look into it.
- We'll tell the person who posted it what we decided, why, and how to appeal, unless doing so would put someone at risk or the law prevents it.
Intimate images
If a photo on Mangia Senza is an intimate image of you, shared without your consent, report it. You can also report on behalf of the person shown. Use the "Report" button and choose "Intimate image", or email hello@mangiasenza.com with "Intimate image" in the subject line.
Please tell us:
- that you're the person in the image, or that you're acting for them;
- where the image is (a link or the listing name);
- how we can contact you;
- that your report is made in good faith and is true to the best of your knowledge.
We'll remove the image as soon as we reasonably can, and within 48 hours. We'll also take steps to stop it being posted again.
If you think a review is defamatory
If you believe a review contains a false statement that harms your reputation, or your business's reputation, email hello@mangiasenza.com with "Defamation complaint" in the subject line. Please include:
- your name, and the email address where we can contact you;
- the exact words you're complaining about, and where they appear (a link);
- what you think the words mean, and why they're defamatory of you;
- which parts you believe are factually inaccurate, or are opinions not supported by fact;
- confirmation that you don't have enough information about the reviewer to bring legal proceedings against them;
- whether you agree to us giving the reviewer your name and email address.
What happens next:
- Within 48 hours, we'll acknowledge your complaint and send it to the reviewer. We won't include your name or email address unless you've agreed.
- The reviewer has 5 days to reply.
- If they don't reply, or they agree to removal, we'll remove the review within 48 hours and tell you.
- If they want the review to stay, they must give us their full name and postal address. We'll tell you, and we'll only pass on their details if they agree or a court orders us to.
Whatever the outcome of this process, we'll still remove any review that clearly breaks our rules or the law.
7. Appeals
If we've removed your content or restricted your account and you think we got it wrong, you can appeal:
- use the "Appeal" link on the notice in your Account settings, or email hello@mangiasenza.com with "Appeal" in the subject line, within 30 days;
- where possible, someone who wasn't involved in the original decision will look again;
- we'll tell you the outcome, usually within 14 days. If we got it wrong, we'll put things right.
8. What happens if rules are broken
Depending on how serious it is, we may:
- remove the content;
- send a warning;
- suspend the account for a while;
- close the account permanently, for example for fake reviews, illegal content or harassment;
- for a business that breaks the rules, label its listing.
We report illegal content to the police or the National Crime Agency where the law requires it, or where someone is at risk.
9. For businesses
- Claim your listing to correct facts.
- Don't post reviews about your own business or your competitors.
- Don't ask customers to post only positive reviews.
- Don't offer customers rewards for reviews.
- If you're worried about a review, report it. We'll look at it fairly, but we won't remove a review just because it's negative.
10. Who's responsible
The Mangia Senza team is responsible for this policy and for online safety at Mangia Senza. Contact: hello@mangiasenza.com.
